Morocco Aims to Boost Industrial Energy Efficiency with International Partnerships

A seminar on performance was organized on October 15, 2019 in Casablanca as part of the cooperation plan between the Casablanca-Settat region and the Walloon region as well as other energy partners. During this meeting, Belgian companies shared their energy performance.
With 38% of the national energy bill, the industrial sector remains a priority for the energy sector in Morocco. To this end, audits are being initiated with major energy consumers in order to carry out a set of technical and economic investigation studies, control of the energy performance of equipment and technical processes, in order to identify the causes of over-consumption of energy while proposing a corrective action plan, indicates lavieeco.com.
Invited to this energy forum, Belgian firms and operators have offered their services in energy efficiency. The same source highlights the case of the Moroccan branch of the industrial John Cockerill. The latter, according to La Vie éco, has been operating in the Kingdom since 2013 and represents the national potential in energy services.
With a client portfolio composed of leading industrialists, OCP and Taga, John Cockeril provides maintenance and energy efficiency services and has just invested 3 million euros to continue its development.
Drawing on their experience in energy efficiency, industrialists including Multicérame du Groupe Chaabi, which pays an annual energy bill of 150 million DH, shared their experience.
For having taken the energy issue seriously and implemented the ISO 50001 standard on energy management, the annual gain of this company amounts to 10 million DH.
The actions of this company, namely the implementation of an energy measurement and management system, the acquisition of new furnace burners not to mention the electrical optimization to achieve energy efficiency, have certainly been costly, but in the end, they have been very profitable both for the company’s finances and industrial performance as well as for the environment and the Kingdom’s trade balance, reports the same media.
