Moroccan Youth Sentenced for Pickpocketing Spree in Bayonne, France

The Bayonne Judicial Court sentenced a young Moroccan to 6 months in prison on Monday, July 12, for a series of pickpocketing incidents.
The events took place on Sunday, June 13, on the Quai de Lesseps in Bayonne. That day, a young Moroccan had snatched a woman’s necklace. The police managed to arrest him. They found another necklace, a bracelet that was not in his name, and a mobile phone in his backpack, reports France Bleu. The owner of the latter is a Bayonnais. Thieves had snatched his device the day before on Rue d’Espagne in Bayonne. A theft that led to a chase with bystanders.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday before the Bayonne Judicial Court. He claims to be a minor and says he entered France illegally. Except that the results of a bone analysis requested by the justice system conclude that he is between 17 and 20 years old. The public prosecutor’s office is seeking seven months in prison. The defendant’s lawyer cites his client’s clean criminal record and requests a suspended sentence. The verdict is in: the young Moroccan is sentenced to 6 months in prison with continued detention.
