Moroccan Workers Scammed in French Job Scheme, Trial Set for August

A "business leader" and his accomplices will be tried at the end of August before the Toulouse Criminal Court, notably for organized fraud and aiding illegal entry and stay. Their victims are Moroccan workers to whom they had promised jobs in exchange for a large sum of money.

Relying on the texts of the Occitanie regional prefecture authorizing external recruitment, the 49-year-old manager of a company officially benefiting from the social integration income defrauded several Moroccan workers. Recruited in Morocco, they had advanced between 8,000 and 12,000 € for a promised 3-year job, with housing, but they never worked in France. Investigators from the mobile search brigade of the border police discovered that some had only worked for "a few weeks" without ever seeing their pay slip. They sometimes received a few banknotes.

The company manager, two of his sisters and one of their companions were arrested and then taken into custody. "The older brother, born in Morocco but settled in France for a long time, would have initiated these recruitments," La Dépêche du Midi believes. He would have brought six people to Toulouse to work alongside him. About fifteen people came to the same city through one of his sisters.

After being presented to the public prosecutor’s office, these accused will have to appear at the end of August before the Toulouse Criminal Court. They are being prosecuted in particular for organized fraud and aiding illegal entry and stay. They were placed under judicial supervision. They are prohibited from managing a company and contacting their former "employees".
