Moroccan Woman Evades Deportation: Judge Overrules Belfort Prefecture in Controversial Immigration Case

While the prefecture of Belfort expected to extend the detention in the waiting area of an irregular Moroccan woman, charged with evading an expulsion order, the justice system has dropped the case. This Moroccan national has regained her freedom.
A slap in the face for the prefecture of Belfort. A Moroccan woman arrived at Marseille-Provence airport from Morocco on August 20 without a residence permit, as her permit had been invalidated by the prefecture of Belfort. While she was supposed to be sent back to Morocco on August 22, she opposed her expulsion. Two days later, she was taken into custody for evading an expulsion order and then brought before the courts.
The liberty and detention judge ruled on the case and made a decision: refusal to extend the Moroccan woman’s detention in the waiting area. In turn, the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor’s office dropped the case. Since Sunday, this Moroccan national has regained her freedom. She is not subject to any further proceedings.
