Moroccan Truckers Face French Visa Crackdown, Sparking Parliamentary Inquiry

The situation of Moroccan truckers who have been unable to obtain French visas without valid reason worries parliamentarians who have decided to question the government.

France’s decision to halve the number of visas granted to Moroccan nationals has seriously affected the drivers of international road transport (TIR) companies, to whom the French consulates in Morocco have refused to grant the visa, which is essential for the exercise of their profession.

This decision by the French authorities, which caused an uproar in Morocco, will be at the heart of the debates on Monday, December 6, during the weekly oral question session at the House of Representatives. The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, will take the opportunity to provide more details to the parliamentarians on this situation that has consequences for the Moroccan economy.

The parliamentary group of the RNI, Istiqlal and the PAM, members of the governing majority, will address the oral question to the minister with the following title: "The situation of the international freight transport sector in light of the recent decision of the French authorities".

It should be noted that the French and Moroccan authorities have recently engaged in talks in order to reach a suitable solution for both parties. An accelerated visa issuance procedure had been proposed to allow truckers to carry out their activities. But so far, no solution has yet been found.
