Moroccan Trucker Sentenced to Prison for Smuggling 351 Kilos of Cannabis into France

The Perpignan Judicial Court sentenced a driver, registered in Morocco, to three years in prison, including one suspended, for transporting cannabis resin.
In addition to the prison sentence, the driver was also fined 3,510,000 euros by customs and banned from entering French territory for 5 years, reports franceinfo. He was transporting 351 kilos of cannabis resin.
It all started with a check carried out by the customs officers of the Perthus brigade, a town in the Pyrénées-Orientales on the Spanish border, at the toll barrier of the A9 motorway around 10:30 pm on December 13. They intercepted a semi-trailer registered in Morocco and discovered a cargo consisting solely of ten "Moroccan-style" suitcases, filled with wrapped brown tape bricks in its trailer. These bricks contained 351 kg of cannabis resin, the entire cargo of the truck.
The truck driver was arrested, placed in customs detention and then handed over to the DTPJ (Territorial Directorate of the Judicial Police) of Perpignan, before being sentenced on Friday by the court.
