Moroccan Trans Influencer Apologizes for Unintended Outing of Gay Men

The Moroccan transgender influencer residing in Turkey, Sofia Taloni, who launched a campaign of denigration against the LGBT community in Morocco, apologized on Wednesday, May 15, for "encouraging her subscribers to download dating apps that were then used to locate and publicly lynch gay men".
In a video posted on social media, Sofia Taloni says she regretted that her advice had been used to "target gay men instead of bringing them closer to society" in Morocco, where homosexuality is illegal. "My intention was to normalize" homosexuality "so that we would stop considering them as outcasts," she says.
"I literally wanted people to see gay people as the man or woman next door and put an end to the negative fantasy of knowing who they are, what they look like and how they live," she adds.
Her gesture, she explains in a written response to the British agency Reuters, "was intended to show how many people were gay in the country" and to "humanize" homosexuality.
