Moroccan Taxi Fares Threaten Affordable Domestic Tourism Push

While the Moroccan government is promoting domestic tourism through the launch of low-cost domestic flights, the fares charged by taxi drivers from the airports to the cities tend to undermine these efforts.
The initiative of air links at reasonable prices between the regions of Morocco risks not bearing fruit. And for good reason, the increase in fares charged by some taxi drivers for transporting citizens from the airports to Moroccan cities. In the eyes of some travelers, it is unthinkable that a traveler travels hundreds of kilometers by plane for a price not exceeding "two hundred dirhams" to find himself forced to pay the same price or more to travel 20 or 30 km by road to reach the city closest to the airport.
Based on this observation, they call on the government to strengthen the initiative if it really wants to achieve the objectives it has set for itself. "Providing abundant good means of transport connecting the airports to the cities is essential to make this positive measure complete and effective, and to ensure a smooth and comfortable travel experience for citizens," they say.
At the end of March, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair launched its first domestic flights in Morocco, thus becoming the third airline to operate flights in the kingdom, after Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and Air Arabia Maroc.
