Moroccan Tax Authorities Target Influencers for Undeclared Foreign Income

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) has just sent a formal notice to influencers who own assets or receive money from abroad, inviting them to declare them and pay the corresponding tax.
In collaboration with the Foreign Exchange Office, the DGI has drawn up a list of content creators on social networks who do not declare their assets abroad or the income they receive from abroad, reports Assabah, specifying that a formal notice has just been sent to them to invite them to regularize their tax situation.
According to data from the Foreign Exchange Office, several influencers have set up companies, acquired real estate and shares, opened bank accounts abroad and even have cryptocurrencies, without declaring them. Moreover, they use these revenues to make online payments.
An investigation conducted in collaboration with European institutions revealed that the amount of undeclared income of some influencers can sometimes reach double the declared amount. The DGI wants to put an end to this tax evasion. That’s why it warns influencers that it will initiate forced recovery proceedings against them if they don’t pay their taxes.
