Moroccan Survey Reveals Sharp Income Drop Across Professions Due to COVID-19

Moroccans have seen their purchasing power drop considerably due to the Covid-19 pandemic and confinement. This is what a survey by the High Commission for Planning (HCP) has just revealed.
The results of this survey, conducted from June 15 to 24 with 2,169 households, show the extent of the damage caused by the confinement measure on workers, especially the most precarious among them. By profession, "the drop in income affected 86% of craftsmen and skilled workers, 84% of merchants, 77% of farmers and 26% of senior executives".
In studying the effects of Covid-19 on food expenditure, the HCP focused on certain products such as flour and other cereals, vegetables, fruits, legumes, red meats, white meats, fish, milk and dairy products, table oils, and finally sugar. It emerges that one household in two has reduced its spending on certain food products. More than three out of ten households have reduced spending on fruits, and more than one in four have reduced spending on red meats and fish. The drop is even more significant in the rural world.
According to the survey results, the improvement in the situation will be gradual in the coming months, "82% of households who have reduced their food spending expect this decline to continue", the same source specifies.
