Moroccan Students in France Face Financial Crisis as Scholarships Cut

Several Moroccan students are considering returning to Morocco permanently, after being excluded from the list of candidates eligible for the merit scholarship. Out of the 200 Moroccan students who joined higher education institutions in France last September, only 95 received aid from the state.

The father of a student was surprised to see that the students from the two business schools, Kedge and Neoma, were not on the list of scholarship recipients, stating that "105 candidates were deprived of this scholarship without notice".

"The families who were shocked by this decision did not receive any note from the supervisory Ministry, knowing that our social situation makes us eligible for the scholarship," he laments.

Unable to cope with the costs, about 70% of Moroccan students at Neoma are considering abandoning their studies in France. Some speak of abandonment on the part of the Ministry of National Education, which "did not warn their families of this eventuality, especially since the two business schools had always been the first to benefit from merit scholarships".

In a statement to the television channel 2M, the Ministry of National Education specifies that the merit scholarships, awarded to students who have completed the first two years of preparatory classes, are granted within the limit of the allocated budget credits and according to the ranking of the schools and students.

"The budget credits allocated for this year concerned the first seven schools, consequently excluding several other institutions including Kedge and Neoma," it is indicated.
