Moroccan Student Murdered in Amiens Laid to Rest Amid Lockdown

The Moroccan student coldly murdered in Amiens, France, Salma Laaziri, was buried on Wednesday, April 15 in a Muslim section of the cemetery, pending the repatriation of her remains to Marrakech, as soon as the state of health emergency is lifted.

The lockdown imposed in France was not an obstacle to the funeral ceremony of the deceased. It took place in the presence of Salma Laaziri’s uncle, his wife who, all of them, made the trip from Clermont-Ferrand, and the student friends of the deceased as well as the association "Deux rives" in Amiens.

According to atlasinfos, the Moroccan Consulate General in Lille took charge of part of the burial costs as part of the system set up by the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in charge of Moroccans residing abroad. The other part was covered by the insurance policy to which the victim had subscribed as part of her studies.

In addition, the Consul General of Morocco in Lille, in contact with the family of the deceased, Nezha Riki, announced the repatriation of the remains of the deceased, according to the wishes of her parents, at the end of the health crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. She also specifies that she shares their grief and sorrow in the face of this terrible misfortune, stating that "this horrible crime has aroused strong emotion within the Moroccan community and beyond".

Arrived in Amiens last September to pursue her engineering studies at ISIEE, after two preparatory years in Marrakech, the 21-year-old student was killed in her studio by her 25-year-old Malagasy boyfriend. Her lifeless body was discovered by one of her friends, worried by her absence.

It should be noted that a Moroccan student from the same institution as the victim (ESIEE) has launched a solidarity kitty on the Leetchi platform to support Salma Laaziri’s family. The envelope currently exceeds 7,000 euros, we learn.
