Moroccan Soccer League Sees Surge in Foreign Coaches, Raising Concerns

The current landscape of the Botola, the professional football championship in Morocco, is marked by the worrying absence of Moroccan technicians in favor of foreign coaches. A situation that raises concerns.

In total, there are eight foreign coaches at the head of football clubs in Morocco. They come in particular from South Africa, Tunisia, Italy, Portugal and Serbia. This preference for foreign coaches raises questions about the skills of local coaches. Beyond Morocco, Ayoub Koutaya, a consultant specialized in the strategic management of football clubs, notes a "sudden" absence of Moroccan coaches and technical staff in foreign championships, particularly in the Maghreb and the Gulf.

In a statement to Madar21, he explained that the quality of the training of Moroccan executives (coaches, assistants and physical trainers) could be at fault. "When we talk about world football, we consider it as a football that relies heavily on technology and scientific research, as well as data analysis and effective communication," said Koutaya, stressing the communication and leadership skills of the coach to communicate effectively with players, the media and administrative staff.

The expert added that psychological skills are essential in the mental and psychological preparation of the coach, who must analyze the personality of the players. Likewise, the physical condition of the coach is important, he stressed, specifying that he must have a good knowledge of muscle anatomy and physiology in order to coordinate the physical supervision of the players. He must also be able to analyze videos and assess the strengths and weaknesses of his team to improve performance. In short, set clear objectives and give himself the technical means to achieve them.
