Moroccan Singer Saad Lamjarred Faces Appeal Trial for Rape Conviction

The appeal trial of Moroccan singer Saad Lamjarred, sentenced in 2023 to six years in prison for rape and aggravated violence against a French woman, opens in France on Monday, June 2.
Saad Lamjarred returns to court. He will appear free on Monday before the Court of Appeal of Val-de-Marne for rape and aggravated violence. In February 2023, the Paris Court of Assizes had sentenced the Moroccan singer to six years in prison for aggravated rape in this case dating back to 2016. On April 20, 2023, he was released from prison after being granted provisional release.
"This new trial represents for our client much more than a procedure. It is the hope of justice fully and definitively rendered," said Victorien de Faria and David Chemmi, the lawyers for the civil party. They added: "The Paris Court of Assizes recognized the rape of which she was a victim by sentencing Mr. Lamjarred to 6 years in prison. The latter has appealed the decision. After 9 years of proceedings, this is a new ordeal imposed on our client."
Laura Prioul, the plaintiff, will be present at the appeal trial. The verdict is expected on Friday in Créteil.
