While he was supposed to participate in a cultural and artistic event to which he was invited by Harvard University, Moroccan singer Abdelhafid Douzi is denied entry to the United States. In a video posted on his Instagram account, he recounts his misadventure.
Douzi says he was surprised by the decision denying him entry to American territory. According to his explanations, it was upon arrival at the airport (without specifying the country) that the decision was notified to him. From what he says, no clear reason was given to him. The only recommendation: airport authorities asked him to contact the consulate or embassy to inquire about the reasons for this ban.
It was only thanks to contacts established by the organizers at Harvard University and his work team that Douzi finally learned the reason why he was denied entry to American soil. His ban is indeed linked to a visit he made to Iraq about a month and a half ago to be honored there. However, this country is on the list of countries subject to strict restrictions, like Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia, and others, the singer specified.
Given that Douzi holds a Belgian passport, officials indicated the procedure to follow to obtain the lifting of the ban decision. This involves the need to hold a meeting with the American consulate in the country where he is located. On this occasion, he must explain the reasons that led him to visit Iraq. According to the singer, this process will take a long time.
