Moroccan Recruit Fulfills Dream, Joins French Foreign Legion in Perpignan Ceremony

Slim, a 24-year-old Moroccan, officially becomes a legionnaire, in Perpignan. He admits to having realized his childhood dream. It was at the ceremony for the presentation of the kepis, which took place on Monday, June 24, 2019.
After intensive training in Castelnaudary, reports L’Indépendant, Slim (Slimane?) says that his "integration into the group happened naturally", despite the difficulties encountered. "In the Legion, we are not different. We worked, ate, slept together, we are all brothers," confides the young man who says he is "proud of his choices".
Among the difficulties, Slim mentions two levels that were not insurmountable. "It was a bit hard with the training, the handling of weapons and the learning of the French language all day long," says the young Moroccan legionnaire, who had to hold on until the end to realize his "childhood dream".
The same media reports that at this ceremony, the honor went to Marcel, the captain of the 4th Foreign Regiment of Castelnaudary, to highlight the three fundamental reasons why legionnaires from around the world are enlisted.
According to him, "if, for the majority of soldiers, especially middle-aged South Americans, it is the economic and administrative reason that motivates them, the young people are rather looking for the taste of adventure". As for the older ones, they hope to seize the opportunity to build a new life," he observes.
