Moroccan Parliament to Probe Airport Authority Amid Financial Concerns

In Morocco, many dysfunctions have been identified in the airports. A parliamentary inquiry commission could soon be set up to thoroughly examine all the projects led by the National Airports Office (ONDA).

Following information about the poor financial management of the National Airports Office (ONDA), the Finance and Economic Development Commission of the House of Representatives and the Infrastructure, Energy, Mines and Environment Commission have summoned the ONDA General Controller and the Minister of Transport and Logistics to a meeting to be held next week. The two officials are expected to provide clarification on the financial management of the office. This meeting could lead to the establishment of a parliamentary inquiry commission to thoroughly examine all the projects led by ONDA, especially those aimed at improving the quality of airport services, declares a source within the parliamentary majority to the Arabic-language daily Assabah.

Lack of professionalism at Mohammed V airport, flight delays in other airports that also suffer from the lack of computerization of their services, unavailability of their call centers or the absence of surveillance cameras in the parking lots, the monopolization by a single office of all the markets related to the continuous training of ONDA agents, management, tinged with favoritism, of the human capital of ONDA... Parliamentarians have identified dysfunctions in the airports and shortcomings related to the management of the office. "Disorder" in some airports, comments the parliamentary group of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) in the House of Councillors. It has questioned the Minister of Transport, to whom it attributes the responsibility for improving and modernizing the services inside the kingdom’s airports to better meet the expectations of travelers.
