Moroccan Parents Jailed in France for Forcing Daughter into Marriage Abroad

The court in Nîmes last Tuesday sentenced a father and his partner to 18 months in prison with probation each, in a case of forced marriage organized in Morocco.
Using fraudulent practices, this father and his partner managed to convince the young girl to leave France for Morocco, in order to force her to marry, reports le Midi Libre.
Subsequently, the two defendants tried to arrange a new marriage for the younger sister of the victim with one of the stepmother’s relatives. Once alerted, the young woman, then 18 years old, filed a complaint in early 2019 after contacting her mother.
To recall, during the holidays, the then still minor young woman had been taken to Morocco a first time. At the time, her future husband, whom her father and stepmother had introduced to her, had abused her, the president of the court pointed out, specifying that the teenager is currently being cared for by an association.
