Moroccan Nationals Lead in French Residence Permit Recipients, Immigration Report Shows

The Ministerial Statistical Service of Immigration in France under the Ministry of the Interior has revealed the number of Moroccans who obtained a residence permit in 2021.
In total, 3,451,804 foreigners, including 41.7% from the Maghreb, were able to benefit from a residence permit in France at the end of 2021. According to the report from the Immigration and Integration Ministerial Statistical Service, the number of valid residence permits and temporary documents increased by 3%.
In total, 566,641 Moroccans held a valid residence permit and temporary residence documents in 2021 compared to 555,290 in 2020, an increase of 2%. Morocco ranks second after Algeria (610,992 against 610,992, a slight decrease of 2.1%) and ahead of Tunisia with 260,935 against 253,239, an increase of 3%.
With 35,192 against 30,218 in 2020, an increase of 16.5%, Morocco is the first country in 2021 to which France issued the most first residence permits. It is followed by Algeria (25,783) and Tunisia (17,368). Morocco also tops the list of residence permits issued for economic reasons. In total, 7,219 were issued to Moroccans. They are followed by Tunisians (4,068) and Malians (2,050).
