Moroccan Medical Experts Urge Resource Adaptation as COVID-19 Cases Surge

Experts from the Moroccan Society of Emergency Medicine (SMMU) and the Moroccan Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia and Resuscitation (SMAAR) are calling for the adaptation of resources to the intensity of the spread of the coronavirus in the kingdom.
In a statement, these experts say that this approach will effectively control the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic. They also emphasized the modalities of medical regulation in the event of a massive influx, the management of symptomatic cases with signs of severity, the management of symptomatic cases without signs of severity, asymptomatic cases without risk factors and contact subjects as well as the strengthening of preventive measures.
To face a new wave of coronavirus infections, the experts recommend preserving exclusive access to the capacity to care for vital emergencies, severe and/or complex cases at SAMU-Center 141 and favoring other existing circuits for other cases depending on local resources (green numbers other than "141", civil protection, private SAMU, city medicine).
They also advocated for the implementation of a strategy to strengthen local capacities and regional mutual assistance, including the opening of crisis rooms and, if necessary, additional overflow rooms. It is also a question of directing Covid-19 calls deemed serious to the regional SAMU-Center 141, of strengthening human resources through the mobilization of students, city general practitioners and retired physicians and of prioritizing the diagnosis and monitoring of lung lesions related to the Coronavirus within public and private hospital structures.
For the appropriate use of additional tests, they recommend using thoracic CT without injection and in low-dose mode in case of suggestive respiratory symptoms requiring hospital care in a Covid+ or suspected patient, thoracic CT with injection in the follow-up phase in case of secondary worsening of symptoms or in intensive care and no indication for performing a thoracic CT for screening purposes in asymptomatic patients.
In addition, the experts from SMMU and SMAAR called for the strict application of the preventive measures enacted to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the kingdom.
