A Moroccan man shot multiple times and abandoned near a clinic: two men targeted

The Moroccan man was found during the night of August 29 to 30 in a parking lot on via Piemonte in Castellanza, in the province of Varese, a few meters from a private clinic.

Hit by several bullets that struck vital organs, the man in his forties was in critical condition when emergency services arrived. Medical teams attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to save him.

The victim, identified through his fingerprints and police files, was a 41-year-old Moroccan national known to law enforcement.

A few days after the murder, investigators now have a much more precise lead. According to Il Giorno, their attention is focused on two people who may belong to a group opposed to the one with which the victim was allegedly connected.

A war for control of the woods

The investigation is now clearly turning toward the Rugareto woods, a vast area located between the provinces of Varese and Milan and known for several years for drug trafficking.

Investigators suspect a war between rival groups seeking to control the drug-selling points established in these wooded areas.

According to La Provincia di Varese, one of the hypotheses being examined is even that two people directly took part in the attack on the Moroccan man.

The carabinieri are seeking in particular to determine whether the victim knew his attackers and whether he had been lured into a trap. They must also establish whether the murder had been planned or whether it occurred following an unexpected confrontation.

Another element is puzzling investigators: the man in his forties may not have been shot in the parking lot where he was found.

Initial findings suggest that he may have been hit by the shots elsewhere before being transported, already seriously wounded, to via Piemonte and abandoned near the clinic.

The images from surveillance cameras are therefore being analyzed in an attempt to reconstruct the route taken by the vehicle that allegedly transported the victim and identify the people who were inside it.

No direct witness is believed to have seen him being abandoned.

The autopsy must also help clarify the trajectory of the projectiles, the distance from which the shots were fired and the exact time of death.

Italy has already experienced several murders of Moroccans linked to settling scores in the drug-trafficking world.

The Castellanza case could also be linked to another attack that occurred this summer in the same area of Rugareto.

In July, another Moroccan man was restrained and violently beaten before being shot in the leg. His attackers then abandoned him near Garbagnate hospital.

The carabinieri are now examining possible similarities between the two attacks: the methods used, the people involved and the links between the different groups active in the woods.

In another shooting case targeting a Moroccan man in Italy, three suspects were eventually arrested after surveillance-camera footage and wiretaps were analyzed.

In Castellanza, no arrests have yet been announced. But the emergence of two names in the investigation and the now-preferred lead of a war between trafficking groups constitute the first major development since the victim was discovered.
