Moroccan Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Assaulting Police Officers in Paris Suburb

A Moroccan, a homeless person, who on Monday attacked with a group of young people two police officers in Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis), was sentenced on Thursday to two years in prison and a ban on staying in the department for five years.

The Moroccan was identified as the main aggressor of the 32-year-old police officer who was attacked on Monday by a group of individuals during an operation to dismantle drug trafficking networks in Bagnolet. The officer was lynched by these young people after being subjected to insults such as: "Kill him, he’s a dirty cop dog", "Smoke him, he’s a schmitt, kill him!".

The police officer, who managed to extricate himself from this attack with the help of a colleague, filed a complaint for assault. "I was being lynched on the ground. I continued to receive penalty-style kicks to the head, I was only protected by my motorcycle helmet. [...] My head was swinging left and right under the violence of the blows and I still hear ’we’re going to smoke you, we’re going to kill you, you son of a bitch, you dirty cop’," he explained in the report to which LCI had access.

After an investigation, two people, including the Moroccan, were arrested on Wednesday and taken into custody for group violence against a person holding public authority. On Thursday, they appeared on the charge of "violence with ITT less than eight days" aggravated by the victim’s function as a person holding public authority.

The Moroccan, born on May 13, 1989 in Morocco, is a homeless person with a clean criminal record. He was sentenced to two years in prison and a ban on staying in the department of Seine-Saint-Denis for five years.
