Moroccan Man Sentenced to Prison for Electric Razor Theft at French Supermarket

The Verdun correctional court sentenced a Moroccan to two months in prison for the theft of an electric razor. The deputy prosecutor stresses that "there is no small theft".
The facts date back to February 16, 2019. Karim*, a 45-year-old Moroccan had stolen an electric razor from the Leclerc hypermarket in Verdun, reports L’Est Républicain. Having not responded to the magistrates’ summons because he shuttles between France and Morocco, the defendant was called to appear before the Verdun correctional court.
This man known to the justice system had in the meantime promised to reimburse the electric razor, the object having been unpacked. A promise not kept.
On Wednesday, January 28, Karim was conspicuous by his absence at his trial. "Apparently, he lives between France and Morocco and engages in small thefts to make ends meet," the judge noted as he heard the case. For deputy prosecutor Lapertot, "there is no limit threshold below which the prosecution does not prosecute!"
The verdict was handed down: Karim was sentenced to two months in prison.
