Moroccan Man Sentenced for Domestic Violence Against Wife and Children in Dieppe

The Dieppe (Seine-Maritime) court sentenced a 48-year-old Moroccan to three years in prison, including one year in prison, for violence and harassment against his wife and children.

After requesting a delay to ensure his defense, the Moroccan had been placed in pre-trial detention before appearing again in April 2024, reports Actu.fr. The defendant was tried for harassment and violence against his wife and children. Étienne Thieffry, the public prosecutor, requested a sentence of 2 years in prison, including 14 months suspended probation for 2 years, accompanied by the civil party’s requests in terms of protection. "Society no longer accepts the type of behavior you have had towards your wife and your children," he stressed.

In the dock, the defendant claimed to be a good father and a caring husband. "I gave them pocket money, I did everything to make my wife happy. She says she’s not happy, why did she stay with me for more than 20 years. She says she was afraid for the children, why did she let them go to Morocco alone with me?". His lawyer supports: "We wanted to present my client as a monster, he is just a human being with his strengths and weaknesses. He is a loving father, perhaps a little rough. He received an authoritarian education in Morocco and perhaps that is not acceptable in France. He does not have only good manners, but that does not make him guilty." But his client is dismantled as soon as the first arguments of Derny, the victims’ lawyer, who cited the testimony of one of the children.

"My father threatened to kick my brother out at the end of Ramadan, otherwise he would kill him." The child will add: "He is capable of killing, he said he didn’t care about going to prison." Not believing the defendant’s statements, the magistrates did justice to the victims.
