Moroccan Man Sentenced for Domestic Violence Against Wife and Children in Carcassonne

A 48-year-old Moroccan man appeared on Wednesday, December 4, before the Carcassonne Criminal Court for acts of violence against his partner and their four children. The events took place in Villegailhenc, near Carcassonne, between July 2018 and July 2024.

The case came to light on July 20, following the call for help from the eldest of the siblings. "My father is beating my mother, come quickly..." he told the gendarmes. On the spot, the law enforcement officers discovered an explosive family situation. The mother had marks of blows, slapped, pushed and strangled, with 2 days of ITT. The origin of the dispute? Suspicions of infidelity on the part of the husband, reports L’Indépendant.

The children, aged 5 to 17, confirmed the habitual violence of their father. Belt blows, bamboo, on the feet, the buttocks, sometimes until blood... The father, of Moroccan origin, would have reproduced the violent educational pattern of which he says he was a victim.

Facing the judges, the man acknowledged part of the facts, minimizing the violence against his wife. "I admit to having been violent, but I didn’t strangle her. I pushed her with my nerves, but I didn’t hit her!" he said. As for the violence against his children, he justifies them by a desire to "scare them" and prevent them from "repeating their mischief".

"The trauma is persistent on these children who relive the facts when they mention them!" stressed the prosecutor, requesting eighteen months of suspended probation and withdrawal of parental authority. The lawyer for the mother and children, Me Mohamed Essabir, insisted on the trauma suffered by his clients and the need for a "total deprivation of parental authority".

The defense lawyer, on the other hand, highlighted the "evolution" and "awareness" of her client, placed under judicial supervision and followed by a psychologist since August 22.

After deliberation, the court sentenced the family man to eighteen months of suspended probation, with the obligation to attend a parental responsibility course.
