Moroccan Man Drowns in Heroic Attempt to Save Children from Belgian Pond

Last Thursday, the residents of the CPAS nursing home in Hal (Flemish Brabant) were shocked by the death of Mohamed, a man of Moroccan origin who drowned in a pond while trying to save two children.
According to the initial elements of the investigation opened by the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s office, "two brothers, aged 6 and 11, from Tubize (Walloon Brabant) jumped into the pond to retrieve a ball. The youngest probably jumped in first, followed by his brother," said the public prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Carol Vercarre, stressing that they intended to retrieve the ball and get out of the pond quickly, reports vrtnws.
He stressed that unfortunately things did not go as planned. "A 44-year-old passer-by jumped into the water after being alerted by the cries for help from other young people. Another man was able to extract the passer-by and the 11-year-old child from the pond. The boy was hypothermic but alive, while the man died. The 6-year-old child was also able to get out of the water and was resuscitated. He was then taken to the hospital."
A tragedy that has shaken the region, as it is the first time someone has died in this pond. But according to the mayor of Hal, although this pond is not particularly large, it can have a very significant depth.
