Moroccan man who came to France at 5 deported after court rejects appeal

On October 15, from Grasse remand prison, he makes one final appeal. The man is Moroccan, grew up in France and is due to be deported two days later. In his application, he chiefly cites his mother, whom he says he helps, and the fact that his brothers and sisters live in France.

The Nice administrative court considers his application as a matter of urgency. The man challenges the order signed on October 5 by the prefect of Vaucluse and argues that his removal would constitute an excessive interference with his family life. His wife lives in Morocco. The October 16 ruling weighs his family ties against public safety requirements.

Six convictions tip the balance

The man’s criminal record weighs heavily. He was convicted six times between 2018 and 2026. In 2024, he was sentenced to ten months in prison for resisting arrest, insulting officials and property damage. On March 31, he was sentenced to 18 months, including 12 months suspended, notably for death threats and offenses targeting an elected official in Sainte-Cécile-les-Vignes.

Police also knew him from several incidents between 2012 and 2022. The deportation commission had approved his removal on June 11. The prefect then signed the order on October 5, finding that his presence posed a serious threat to public order.

On October 16, the judge ruling on interim applications rejects his request without a hearing. In the judge’s view, the repeated and serious offenses justify the measure, despite the family ties he cited. The next day, upon his release from prison, the Moroccan man is taken into custody by border police, driven to the airport and put on a flight to Morocco, according to Le Dauphiné Libéré.
