Moroccan Lawmaker Proposes Pay Raise for Elected Officials to Attract Talent

This is a proposal that can be described as bold! Najib El Bekkali, a PJD parliamentarian, has just proposed an increase in the allowances of elected officials so that middle and senior managers do us the honor of running for office.

While it is known to all (unofficially) that politics almost always enriches and at a time when we strangely see politicians spending more on their election campaigns than they could honestly earn if elected, Najib El Bekkali comes to bring us the solution to attract middle and senior managers to political struggles: Increase the (official) earnings of elected officials!

El Bekkali claims, on his Facebook page, that what an elected official currently earns is definitely not commensurate with the responsibilities he carries on his back. And El Bekkali compares, between salaries in the private sector and those of elected officials.

A clear difference emerges, according to him: "Is it conceivable that the president of the commune of Casablanca, whose budget exceeds 3 billion dirhams, who has more than 1500 civil servants and whose prerogatives are sometimes more numerous than those of certain ministers, receives only 15,000 DH in monthly allowances?" This when the managers of companies delegated by the municipality of Casablanca earn much more.

And El Bekkali gives many examples of functions in the private sector, doctors or journalists for example, who cannot set aside what they receive in the private sector to go to work in municipalities.
