Moroccan Labor Group Slams Government’s Approach to Expatriates, Calls for Policy Changes

The Democratic Labor Organization (OMT) has strongly criticized the government’s policy towards Moroccans residing abroad, pointing to an approach deemed superficial and occasional, particularly during the reception of Moroccans residing abroad during the summer holidays.
A press release highlights the absence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the handling of matters concerning these Moroccans, contrary to the practices of governments. Formerly, it recalls, a ministry specifically dedicated to Moroccans abroad dealt with these issues, a structure that seems to be lacking today.
In its advocacy, the Democratic Labor Organization recalled the directives issued by King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People. These directives emphasize the need to look after the interests of Moroccans living abroad and to ensure their representation in national institutions.
Similarly, the OMT calls for immediate action to help Moroccans stranded at the Rafah border crossing in Gaza, also demanding the cancellation of a multilateral agreement signed in 2019 on the automatic exchange of tax information. These requests come on the eve of International Migrants Day (this Monday, December 18), concerning the situation of some 5 million Moroccans spread across nearly 100 countries.
