Moroccan King Reportedly Donates €2 Million for Notre-Dame Restoration

Wednesday 1 May 2019, by Amine

Nothing is official but according to some media sources the amount of the donation from King Mohammed VI for the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris would be in the order of 2 million euros.

Based on the weekly Al Ayam, Alyaoum24 writes that after expressing his solidarity with France, following the April 15 fire at the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, King Mohammed VI decided to financially contribute to its reconstruction up to 2 million euros or, as the same source specifies: "2 billion cents."

This amount was almost a secret. A few days ago, Telquel wrote in an article titled "Notre-Dame: Omerta on the amount of Morocco’s donation" the following: "From the nebulous and embarrassed ’Uh... hold on, I’ll check’ to the frank ’Ah, that, we can’t disclose it,’ to the fatal silence, the message is clear: the amount of Morocco’s donation for the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, devastated by a fire on Monday, April 15, remains for the time being a state secret. French Embassy in Rabat and Moroccan Embassy in Paris, Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, French Ministry of Communication, Archdiocese of Paris... In total, TelQuel contacted nearly forty people. In vain." So what to make of this information from Al Ayam?

What remains certain is that Chakib Benmoussa, the Moroccan ambassador to France, informed Michel Aupetit, the Archbishop of Paris, that the king had decided that Morocco would make a financial contribution to the reconstruction of the cathedral. And that the archbishop thanked the king through the ambassador. So would it be "2 billion cents"?
