Two Moroccan Inmates Escape Belgian Prison on New Year’s Eve

Two Moroccans illegally residing in Belgium managed to escape from the Arlon prison on New Year’s Eve, while a third, a Libyan, was thwarted in his attempt. They would have benefited from outside help.
On Friday, three inmates - two Moroccans and a Libyan - tried to escape during the evening walk, but one of them was caught by a guard, Belga reports. The first two tried to climb a first wall to access the rotunda around 7 p.m. before crossing the 2nd fence. The third did not follow the same path. According to the first elements of the investigation, it would be an improvised escape, specifies the public prosecutor’s office.
The two Moroccans are Amine Al Alaoui and Azzedine Touzi, born respectively in 2004 and 1994 in Morocco. They are both known to justice for theft. In 2021, the Brussels correctional tribunal sentenced Amine twice for robbery with violence or threat to a total of 48 months in prison. Azzedine, for his part, received several prison sentences before the same tribunal for aggravated thefts, illegal stay, possession of a prohibited weapon, attempted thefts and assault and battery. The two men are still at large. Yunes Sabir is the third prisoner. Born in 2001 in Libya, he was convicted, like the two fugitives, for theft, and his hearing is ongoing.
According to the details provided by the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office, the two Moroccans are not considered dangerous individuals.
