Moroccan Immigrant Hailed as Hero in Dramatic Grenoble Apartment Fire Rescue

Mouhsine Sbiti, a 34-year-old Moroccan from Grenoble, is one of the heroes of Villeneuve. Three weeks after the incident, this former gendarme who served at the Royal Palace in Rabat is still traumatized by this experience.
Alerted by the cries of a resident, Mouhsine Sbiti went to the foot of the building at 54 Galerie de l’Arlequin, just a few steps from his residence. On the 3rd floor of the building, there were children surrounded by fire. Thanks to the collective effort of 6 young people in the neighborhood, the children were rescued without much danger.
While the children emerged unscathed from this rescue, the heroes were all injured, recalls Le Monde. Mouhsine Sbiti, who returned to France two months ago as part of a family reunion, got away with a fractured wrist.
More than three weeks after this heroic act, the former officer of the Royal Gendarmerie avoids this building that reminds him of a painful memory. The apartment, which has not yet been renovated, still bears the traces of this tragedy narrowly avoided.
Mouhsine Sbiti still cannot forget these images that haunt him. "I will never forget the look marked by the fear of the youngest boy. I had nightmares about it," he says. He is also preparing to leave this neighborhood to resume a normal life.
