Moroccan Hirak Movement Lawyer Granted Asylum in France After Fleeing Sentence

Abdessadeq Al Bouchtaoui is in France. The lawyer known for defending several activists of the Hirak movement in the Rif has just obtained political asylum there.
The man had left Morocco a few months ago just before being sentenced to 20 months in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams by the Court of Appeal of Al Hoceima. He was, among other things, prosecuted for "insults" towards civil servants, "threats" against institutions, incitement to commit crimes and participation in unauthorized demonstrations.
In reality, he has probably paid for his many interventions in foreign media and his messages on social networks, particularly Facebook where he was the relay of the grievances of the Hirak activists and their families.
It was also on Facebook that he announced that he had received a summons from the police as part of an investigation into his writings.
Long before his appearance in court, he had chosen to leave the kingdom for Switzerland and then France where he will obtain political asylum for himself and his family.
