Moroccan Group Marks 50 Years Since Mass Expulsion from Algeria, Seeks Justice

The executive office of the International Assembly for the Support of Families of Moroccan Origin Expelled from Algeria (CiMEA) held its first session of the year on Monday. On the agenda, the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the tragedy of the expulsion of Moroccans from Algeria on December 8, 1975.
The members of the executive office proceeded to evaluate the work report, the legal, organizational and financial situation of the Association and studied the means of implementing the decisions and recommendations resulting from the last general assembly which took place on March 2 at the headquarters of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights in Rabat. In particular, they focused on the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the tragedy of the expulsion of Moroccans from Algeria on December 8, 1975, scheduled for 2025.
The members of the executive office expressed on this occasion their full availability to spare no effort for the successful organization of this event. They invited the other members of the association to remain mobilized to support this initiative aimed at defending the interests of Moroccans expelled from Algeria with national and international institutions and to get the Algerian authorities to officially recognize these expulsions committed in 1975 against the Moroccan community legally residing in Algeria for decades.
All stakeholders, from civil society to the state, will be associated with the event, the members of the association’s office also indicated, also insisting on the need to put in place a communication strategy in order to raise awareness and inform about these expulsions of Moroccans from Algeria, particularly on social networks. They encourage the realization of scientific studies and research at the university on this tragedy and plan to forge partnerships with associations sharing their vision.
To recall, the International Association for the Support of Moroccan Families Expelled from Algeria in 1975 was founded on February 27, 2021. Its goal is to recover properties illegally seized by the Algerian state and obtain material and moral compensation for the victims of this arbitrary expulsion, facilitate the reunification of Moroccan families with those residing in Algeria by advocating for the reopening of land borders between the two countries.
