Moroccan Frigate Joins French Aircraft Carrier for Mediterranean Naval Exercises

The multi-mission frigate (FREMM) Mohammed VI conducted maneuvers in the Mediterranean with the French Navy’s carrier strike group (GAN) led by the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. This combat vessel is currently docked at the naval base in Toulon.

Recently, the frigate Mohammed VI participated in naval operations conducted by the French carrier strike group centered around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (GAN-FR), alongside the Portuguese frigate Dom Francisco de Almeida (MPN), a Vasco da Gama-class missile launcher ship. Deployed in the central Mediterranean, these surface vessels carried out high-intensity coordinated exercises, including air defense simulations, anti-submarine maneuvers, as well as at-sea refueling operations and naval air alert drills.

Communication, tactical navigation, and command systems were interconnected according to NATO standards, allowing for operational symmetry between the units. These operations are part of the Clemenceau 2025 mission.

After these operations, the frigate Mohammed VI has been docked at the naval base in Toulon since Thursday, reports Mer et Marine. As the largest combat vessel in the Moroccan fleet, the frigate Mohammed VI is equipped with MBDA Scalp Naval cruise missiles, MU90 torpedoes, and Herakles multi-function radars. Built by Naval Group, the Mohammed VI is based on the French Aquitaine-class units. It is the second in a limited series of about ten FREMMs. Its delivery dates back to January 2014.
