Moroccan Family in Cherbourg Fights Deportation, Gains Local Support

Facing expulsion, a Moroccan family has received the support of associations and politicians in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche).
Arrived in France in 2018 from Morocco to flee her husband who was mistreating her, Leïla Aboudya settled in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, in the Manche, where her two children are enrolled in school. The latter attend the Provinces college and the Millet high school. But things are getting complicated for this mother. She received an Obligation to Leave French Territory. Although Mayor Benoît Arrivé intervened to have the prefect lift the summons to the border police, scheduled for August 31, 2022, she is still under the threat of expulsion.
On Tuesday, around 200 people gathered in front of the Provinces gate to show their support for this Moroccan family, reports Ouest France. Among the supporters, a large delegation from Civil Protection, "with whom Leïla Aboudya had volunteered as a volunteer in the Covid vaccination centers, just as she visits hospitalized patients and residents of nursing homes (Établissement d’hébergement pour personnes âgées dépendantes) or gives of her time to the Family and Rural House or to the cultural service of the city". "We ask that her file be re-examined so that she can obtain a residence permit and be able to work because she lives in great precariousness," said Anne Caron, member of the collegiate governance of Itinérance.
