Moroccan Extras from "Tirailleurs" Film Face Deportation in France's Ardennes

About twenty young people, including Moroccans, are subject to an obligation to leave French territory. The prefecture of the Ardennes cites a lack of identity documents. An appeal has been filed and several associations are mobilizing for their defense.

Among them, several were extras in the film "Tirailleurs", reports the site L’Ardennais, specifying that the ordeal of these young people began last August. To justify this decision, the prefecture cited problems related to the date of birth that would have been falsified.

"The situations are all processed with regard to the file submitted to the prefecture. We are studying, with a lot of objectivity, the date of arrival, the integration path, the ties on the territory and the respect of public order," she added.

In this trial, the young people from the Ardennes have benefited from the support of volunteer lawyers and several defense associations, including the Ardennes Collective for the Defense of Young Foreign Adults. Speaking on the situation, Maître Julie Segaud-Martin, a specialist in immigration law, indicated that "appeals have been filed against these OQTFs. In other words, a hearing will determine whether they are justified or not. We don’t know yet when they will take place."

For his part, Fabien Arcangeli, a member of the Ardennes Collective for the Defense of Young Foreign Adults, described the situation as "unfair". "The young people targeted by these OQTFs are perfectly integrated, working, have studied and have no problems with the law," he argued. For now, the effect of the OQTF is suspended and the young people cannot be expelled, due to the appeals filed.
