Moroccan Expats Seek Royal Intervention After Election Exclusion

The inexplicable exclusion of Moroccans abroad from the upcoming elections was received as a major blow for the representatives of the coordination of the eight political parties abroad (Istiqlal, MP, PAM, PJD, PPS, RNI, UC, USFP) and all Moroccans abroad, laments Hadj Chafiq, Deputy Coordinator of the MDM and Coordinator of the Istiqlal Party in Europe, in a free tribune published in L’Opinion, noting that in the face of this situation, all the militants and sympathizers of the Istiqlal party in the world have expressed their disappointment, in the face of the exclusion of Moroccan citizens abroad from participating in the improvement of good governance and, consequently, the development of their country. They who have duties, but also rights, including the right to vote and to be represented in elections, as stated in Article 17 of the 2011 Constitution.

The current government and all the general secretaries of the parties had nevertheless decided to work for the implementation of these constitutional principles during the adoption of the organic law 04-21 related to the upcoming elections. But the observation was quite different. This is why we can rightly cite the work of Mohammed Saoud, member of the Comex and General Coordinator of Moroccans Abroad, entitled "The Moroccan Diaspora: Threat or Opportunity?".

Also, the coordination of political parties abroad unanimously requests the arbitration of King Mohammed VI, as the only authority with the power to restore the constitutional rights of this important segment of his people.
