Moroccan Crown Prince Attends Chirac’s Funeral in Paris, Representing Ailing King Mohammed VI

Ill, King Mohammed VI was unable to travel to Paris. His son, Prince Moulay El Hassan, was therefore sent by the sovereign to represent him at the funeral of Jacques Chirac, the former President of the French Republic.
Mohammed VI "had planned to travel to France in order to privately present his condolences to the family and close friends of the late President Jacques Chirac, given the strong and deep relations that have always linked the two families, the affection and particular consideration borne by the Sovereign towards this great friend of Morocco," says a statement from the Royal Cabinet.
According to his schedule, the Prince was to attend the solemn service scheduled at the Church of Saint-Sulpice at 12 noon, in the presence of Jacques Chirac’s family.
After this step, the Crown Prince planned to go to the Elysée Palace where President Emmanuel Macron was to receive the heads of delegations, Heads of State and Government.
Other personalities were also present yesterday. Among them, the three former French Presidents, Valéry Giscard-d’Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande, the Russian, Italian, Congolese and German Presidents, the Lebanese and Belgian Prime Ministers, the President of the European Commission and the former Senegalese President, Abdou Diouf.
