Moroccan Cooking Oil Prices Surge Amid Global Raw Material Cost Spike
Lesieur Cristal has been facing, for a few days, on social networks, a boycott campaign, following the rise in the prices of its cooking oil. In a press release addressed to its customers and partners, the company justifies the reasons for this measure.
This increase is linked to the rise in prices of agricultural raw materials internationally and more particularly those that go into the manufacture of cooking oils, the press release explains, noting that the price of soy has increased by 80% and that of sunflower by 90% since May 2020. This is all the more so as cooking oils are part of the unsubsidized food commodities.
"Having the duty to ensure the supply of the Kingdom in these times of global health crisis, Lesieur Cristal has managed to build up stocks of raw materials to avoid any risk of shortages. These stocks have allowed it to delay as much as possible the pass-through of the rise in world prices to Moroccan consumers," continues Lesieur Crisal, which, like all market operators, is affected by the rise in prices that was beginning to persist.
Lesieur Cristal understands the reaction of its customers and promises to work "to cushion the impact of the volatility of raw material prices".
