Moroccan Buyers Lead Foreign Real Estate Purchases in Spain, Notary Data Shows

Moroccans are the leading buyers of real estate in Spain. This is revealed by the latest bulletin of the Spanish General Council of Notaries.
With 5,162 transactions carried out in the second half of 2021 out of a total of 63,934, compared to 5,168 in the first half of 2021, Moroccans are the foreigners who have bought the most real estate in Spain, according to data from the General Council of Notaries.
Among resident foreigners, Moroccans and Romanians have acquired the most housing in almost the entire peninsula, except in Galicia and the archipelagos and in the Valencian Community, where the share of Germans, Italians, Portuguese and British was higher.
At the end of December 2021, purchases of housing by foreigners increased by 41.9% year-on-year, after the sharp decline recorded in the first half of 2021 (-37.3%) and the second half (-10.8%) of 2020.
Moreover, Moroccans are the ones who paid the lowest average price per square meter for housing, at 668 euros. They are followed by Romanians (an average of 990 euros/m²), and Ecuadorians (1,087 euros/m²). The national average is 2,016 euros/m².
