Moroccan Business Leaders Propose Economic Measures to Combat Coronavirus Impact

The employers’ association is mobilizing in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic. It proposes a battery of measures intended to provide a breath of fresh air to Moroccan companies in general, and to SMEs in particular.
Gathered on March 12 around the President of the Moroccan General Confederation of Enterprises, Chakib El Alj, the members of the Moroccan employers’ association tried to anticipate the dramatic consequences of the coronavirus by proposing a series of measures.
Thus, during the meeting of the Economic Monitoring Committee (CVE), the CGME presented 6 main measures to counter the economic impact of the pandemic, namely:
• Suspension of tax charges as of March 31 and payroll charges for all sectors, except those not suffering from the crisis;
• Moratorium on bank maturities for affected companies and individuals, particularly SMEs;
• Suspension of tax audits and ATDs. This concerns the CNSS, the DGI and Customs. Measure to be maintained until further notice;
• Implementation of a job loss allowance for low wages, to be activated via the CNSS for job losses due to economic layoffs. Measure to be maintained until further notice;
Implementation of a support fund for affected sectors for which the aforementioned measures are not sufficient;
• Declaration of Covid-19 as a case of force majeure with regard to public contracts.
