Moroccan-Born Pharmacist Gains French Citizenship Under COVID-19 Hero Fast-Track Program

The French Minister of Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, had announced last September her wish to facilitate naturalization for all foreign workers who remained on the front line during the health crisis. A pharmacist of Moroccan origin has just been naturalized after spending about ten years in France.

The selflessness and determination shown by Khansaa Belkasseh, a Moroccan pharmacist, have finally paid off. She benefited from an express procedure intended for foreign workers who have shown their attachment to France during the first lockdown. The first naturalizations, including that of the young Moroccan woman, were published in the official journal on December 23.

Khansaa received the news on the first day of her vacation. She could hardly believe it. On the BFMTV microphone, she said it was "the best Christmas present" she could imagine. It was in February that she filed her application and was able to benefit from an express naturalization thanks to the Schiappa certificate.

For Khansaa Belkasseh, this naturalization crowns all the efforts she has made during the first lockdown. "It was an exceptional experience. I had never been confronted with such a situation. I wondered if I would be up to the task, if I could cope with the responsibilities that are mine."

Like the young Moroccan woman, healthcare professionals, cashiers, or cleaning staff can also obtain French nationality. About 2,890 applications have been filed with the prefecture. For the moment, 74 workers have already been naturalized, and 700 will be soon, specifies the same source.
