Moroccan-Belgian Politician Ahmed Laaouej Elected to Lead Brussels Socialist Party Federation

The Moroccan-Belgian, Ahmed Laaouej, was elected head of the Brussels Federation of the PS with 52.5% of the votes on Saturday, October 19. Thus, the brand new President succeeds Laurette Onkelinx, according to a press release from the Federation.
Now propelled at the head of this Federation, the brand new President saw in this victory the signal of a change for more proximity, reports sudinfo.be.
"Through my victory and that of my team, the Brussels militants have sent a signal for real change to the Brussels Federation of the PS in favor of greater proximity to them and the sections," Ahmed Laaouej said on Saturday evening.
While congratulating his challenger, Rachid Madrane, and his team, the head of the PS Group in the Chamber promised to put in order a Federation "strong and invigorated", faced with the rise of the extreme right and conservatisms, social and economic emergencies, but also climate, "after a catastrophic Michel Government on these plans".
He did not fail to launch the challenge of leading the fight, in the years to come, with Isabelle Emmery and Martin Casier, if the congress designates them as vice-presidents.
However, he expressed the availability of the Brussels PS alongside the future President of the party, Paul Magnette, "because there are also battles to be fought at the federal level in a very complicated political climate that requires a gathering of socialists to face it".
