Moroccan Baker in France Receives Outpouring of Support After Facing Racism

Mouhssine Zouine, 43, manager of a bakery opened in October 2020 in Saint-Marcellin (Isère) who was considering closing his business due to the racism he faces daily has regained hope. On the web, he has received support from all over France, but also from other countries such as Morocco, Algeria and Saudi Arabia.

In the days following his testimony widely disseminated on social networks, the Franco-Moroccan baker has received messages and testimonies of support from Saint-Marcellin, its surroundings, but also from other regions of France, reports francebleu. "He gets up early, he is available every day of the week, and so he is a hard worker! And I am outraged and saddened by this state of affairs, there you go," writes Yves, one of his customers. "It was my customers who pushed me to do something, launches Mousshine Zouine, and the only thing I thought of was Facebook. I didn’t expect it to take on such huge proportions!"

"People started talking, I received enormous support and it’s something that made me very happy. To see that it hurt a lot of people and not just me..." he added. These messages of support also came from other countries. "Canada, Morocco, Algeria, Belgium, Switzerland, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, he lists, and more."

Thanks to these messages, the Franco-Moroccan baker has regained hope. He no longer plans to close his business. "My customers tell me to stay open, he says. I will do my best. If I manage to get back on my feet, it’s wonderful." He also noticed that his detractors are now more discreet. "It has calmed down," observes Mouhssine.
