Moroccan Authorities Investigate Massive Gold and Cash Seizure in Oujda

The services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in coordination with the General Directorate of Surveillance of the National Territory (DGST) are continuing the investigations to find the origin of the 20 kg of gold plates and the sum of around 2.5 million euros seized in Oujda on Friday, August 7, and their final destination.
It could be the loot of thefts, smuggling and ransom money obtained following terrorist kidnappings, particularly in the Sahel, estimates Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. The investigators are trying to find out if the seized money was intended for money laundering in Morocco or for illegal transfer to Europe. Laboratory analyses are currently being carried out on the seized gold plates, the same source said.
On Friday, elements of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ) of Oujda, in coordination with the prefectural service of the judicial police of the city, seized 20 kg of gold plates and 2,489,870 euros and arrested four individuals in the process. This was thanks to the precise information provided by the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
To date, the investigations have not yet shed light on this case.
