New Moroccan Ambassador to France Begins Tenure Amid Strained Relations

Mohamed Benchaâboun presented in his capacity as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the King to France, his credentials to Philippe Franc, Director of State Protocol and Diplomatic Events. The new ambassador measures the scope of his mission as he embarks on it at a time when relations between the two countries are somewhat strained.
Before being entrusted with this new responsibility, the new ambassador had held the position of Minister of Economy, Finance and Administrative Reform from 2018 to October 2021. He had been instrumental in mobilizing and managing resources since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
After graduating from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris, Mohammed Benchaâboun began his professional career at Alcatel Alsthom as Director of Strategy, Development and Management Control, then as Industrial Director. At the state level, he held the position of Director of Customs and Indirect Taxes.
From the Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP), through the Francophone Network of Telecommunications Regulators, Mohamed Benchaäboun has held various positions. He is a member of the board of directors of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity and the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
In recognition of all his actions for development and stability in Morocco, he was decorated by King Mohammed VI with the Wissam Al-Arch (Order of the Throne).
