Moroccan Agriculture Exports Surge 8% Despite Pandemic and Drought Challenges

Unlike other sectors, Moroccan agriculture has withstood the health crisis due to Covid-19. Thanks to this resilience, the 2019-2020 agricultural season saw an 8% increase in exports of agri-food products.
The health crisis due to the coronavirus and the scarcity of rain did not impact the agricultural sector. The increase in exports of agri-food products generated 39.5 billion dirhams in turnover. As for vegetable products, they recorded 1,416,000 tons, an increase of 12% year-on-year.
The dynamism of the professionals in the sector has made it possible to prioritize a regular supply of the domestic market, leading to the smooth running of export activities.
Regarding citrus exports, they have seen a 60% increase in the period from September 1 to November 22, 2020. The recent implementation of a crop rotation program covering an area of 5.8 million hectares on the main autumn crops makes it possible to guarantee consumption needs and exports until May 2021.
Exports for the 2020-2021 agri-food products campaign could record a 10% increase compared to 2020, thanks to the launch of the new agricultural development strategy. Called "Génération green 2020-2030", it aims to strengthen the achievements of the last ten years, by prioritizing human resources.
