Montreal Inferno: Moroccan Couple Loses Everything as Good Samaritan’s Warning Saves Lives

In Montreal, a Moroccan and his wife have lost everything in a major fire that broke out in their building.
Amine Faris, 25 years old, no longer has a home. A major fire ravaged his apartment in the Southwest of Montreal on June 29, 2025. That day, he was at work. It was his wife who contacted him. "When I picked up, I saw that my apartment was on fire," he told the Journal de Montréal.
His wife was awakened by Sébastien Blais, a man who lives near Hadley Street. He pounded on all the doors of the building where the fire had broken out. "I didn’t think twice and I ran," he explained. He took the exterior stairs at the back of the building, and shouted "fire," in French and English, before knocking "very hard" on all the doors, methodically.
"We are very grateful, but we are not doing well at all," sighs Faris. The young Moroccan is marked by this major fire. While waiting to find housing, he and his partner are being housed by the Red Cross. They fear ending up on the street.
