Mentally Disabled Moroccan Man Stranded at Ceuta Border, Denied Entry Home

Moustapha, a young Moroccan with mental disabilities, has been stuck in Ceuta for several weeks. Without papers, he has already been expelled three times by Moroccan agents at the Tarajal border. His only wish is to find his family in Kenitra.

For more than a month, Moustapha has been living as a homeless person at the Tarajal border because he has no papers and cannot cross the border to return to Morocco. He survives thanks to the generosity of the managers of the cafeteria of the Puerta de Europa, located near the border, who provide him with daily meals. The 29-year-old man, who has stayed in a penitentiary center in Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), does not understand Spanish well, reports El Faro de Ceuta.

In this situation, Moustapha is the victim of all kinds of attacks. "The other day, some young people attacked him with fishing hooks," the cafeteria managers were outraged. "For almost two months, he has been lying on the bench, sleeping for a moment on the chair or going to lie down at the intersection before the border crossing, or anywhere, in the hope of one day finding his relatives in Morocco. On his face, one can read sadness and fear."

As a Moroccan citizen, the Moroccan authorities deny him access to the territory of the kingdom because he has no identity and health documents. Like Moustapha, there are currently more than a hundred people living in the same situation for the same reasons or others. Blocked at the Moroccan border, and with no possibility of returning to Spain, these Moroccans are left to their own devices.
